Special people Alison Reynolds and Darren Wyatt got married at the Great House Hotel in Laleston on Saturday, August 20^th.

As we all know the Welsh winter had already set in by then and threatened to ruin our more exotic plans.

The night before the big day, the Friday, the bridal couple had paid a visit to a rather soggy Coity Castle to see if it was possible to shoot some pictures within it’s romantic confines. The Castle itself looked as dramatic and inviting as ever but wet grass and mud are not things most brides associate with wedding dresses and satin shoes.

If it doesn’t rain on the day, we told ourselves. It did rain on the day….. and it stopped ……..and it rained again…… but our indomitable couple proved to be made of stern stuff, and undaunted we set off. We fled the wedding venue immediately after the ceremony and the glamorous bride swapped her high heels for something a little more resilient once we were through the Castle gateway. The old stones seemed to be waiting just for us and we spent a truly happy half hour exploring Coity’s nooks and crannies, it’s archways and bridges, it’s dungeons and towers. There is no doubt in my mind that the awesome history and dramatic beauty of the deserted ruin added a sense of adventure to what was already a perfect day.

THE WEDDING OF LINDSEY HULL AND JONAS THIEL

Lindsey and Jonas got married at the charming King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldston on the Gower Peninsula on Monday 15^th August 2011.

The plans made on a glorious day in May, were to escape to the beach for an hour of photography with sand, sea and solitude in the August sunshine following the ceremony.

Fate had other ideas, barely allowing the bride, looking like a traditional fairytale princess, time to cross the courtyard and join her assembled guests before the heavens opened.

However Hanna the delightful wedding planner had not only organised a superb meal for the couple and all their guests but had also thought to provide a large cream coloured umbrella which once it had been appropriated allowed us a brief spell by the hotel’s enchanting, small lake (large pond) and a little quiet time for the new Mr and Mrs Friel to be alone together.

Swansea Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club Junior Tournament

On a glorious Saturday in June, with no wedding to cover, what better way to spend time in the sun than photographing a junior tennis tournament at Swansea Lawn Tennis and Rackets Club. Unlike a wedding not quite everyone is happy. Many of the under tens lose a match with a few seconds stoic indifference and are soon playing on and off court with their vanquishers. The slightly older ones have a few heartbroken moments in defeat but the atmosphere on the day is that jolly good time is had by all.

THE WEDDING OF CERI CANNON AND ANDREW SMITH

Very much the centre of attention at the wedding of Ceri Cannon and her delightful new husband Andrew Smith was their eight week old baby daughter Jessica Louise who behaved delightfully throughout the ceremony and was the only one who appeared completely unaware of the sudden drop in temperature as the brave party approached the beach.

The Welsh are brave souls and knowing that August is just as likely to be a washout as January or February they marry at all season’s of the year. In the last couple of years, since I have been working in Wales, I have had a Wedding to cover in February or March.

This year I had to wait until the beginning of May for the wedding season to begin. It seemed a very long time, and I am grateful to charming Ceri Cannon, now Mrs Andrew Smith, for allowing me the privilege of covering her happiest day on Wednesday 4^th May.

I had almost forgotten just how much I enjoy the challenge weddings present this one had few glitches. Apart from the photographer getting disgustingly lost on the way to the brides house and the groom’s car getting equally lost on the way to the ceremony only the brides dream of a leisurely stroll on a sunlit beach went up in a vicious cold wind, with red noses and streaming eyes all round..

The beach was abandoned in a mad dash for cars and an early arrival at the lovely Abercraf Inn where we were made very welcome.

Congratulations to Ceri and Andrew and their enchanting baby Jessica Louise who looked and behaved like an angel throughout.

THE WEDDING OF AMANDA REDMAN AND ROBERT GLENISTER

At various times from September onwards last year, the papers reported the celebrity wedding of Amanda Redman, currently playing Superintendant Sandra Pullman, in New Tricks, to her longtime ‘toyboy’ other half Dominic Schnabel. There were plenty of photographs of the couple and in one article they snuck in a pic of her and Robert Glenister at her first wedding in 1984.

Funnily enough that was my first wedding too. As a photographer.

The venue was full of celebrities, including Peter Davison the Dr Who of the day, his wife Janet Dickinson, as well as Janine Duvitsky, instantly recognisable for her role in Abigail’s party and many many more. Many of the other guests, including the bride and groom, are more famous now than they were then.

In August I was back in Carmarthanshire for the lively wedding of Maz and Mark. An event particularly enjoyed by their enchanting son Zac who directed operations throughout the ceremony.

2010 seems to have come and gone in the green hills of South Wales with less rain than usual and therefore less time for blogging.

The biggest event for me in 2010 has to be the birth of my gorgeous grandaughter Aleisha in May, so I shall post a picture of the new family. (And don't anybody tell me the gleeful expression on the face of Aliesha is wind. She is three weeks old and she is laughing).

February 13th proved lucky for Alex Weeks and his beautiful bride Sian when they exchanged vows in the pretty church of St Crallo's in Coychurch, the sun shone all day long.

After a summer spent commuting between Crynant and the glamorous hotspots of the Costa del Sol, covering weddings in Marbella, Nerja, Puerto Banus, Estepona and Fuengirola, it has been very agreeable to be back on the beaches of Langland and Caswell and Swansea Bay and in the cool green gardens of Fox Talbot's historic Margam Park. My thanks to Hayley and Wayne Slocombe and Beccie and Simon Jones for allowing me to share their wedding days with them.

What a wonderful party was thrown by loving couple James and Celeste at the Tikitano Beach Restaurant in Estepona. Despite a blip in the wall to wall Spanish sunshine, rain in the morning and gale force winds in the afternoon could not dent the beauty of the bride nor the scenery. The singing of Celeste's lovely daughter at the ceremony and the moving and funny speeches brought tears and laughter from guests and participants. When after a delightful meal it was time for dancing, no-one held back and a great time was had by all.
